| A distinctive type of wood carving called "karveskurd" or chip-carving has rich traditions in Norway. This type of ornamentation is recognizable by its geometric patterns made with the help of compass and ruler.
Like Hardanger, chip carving is an old Norwegian handicraft that may be more popular among Norwegians in America than Norwegians in Norway. The Sons of Norway recognizes different levels of chip carvers, as well as practitioners of other crafts, in its Cultural Skills Program. |
