Stein Fjell will again participate in the Estes Park Midsummer Festival. The dates for 2008 are June 28 and June 29. We will be asking for members to sign up and help at the event and to help in the preparations for this event. Keep those dates open on your calendars. This is one of our important fund raisers

The Stormy Heart of Norway’s Language Cause:
Oct. 1 Program Features Vinje-Grieg Songs
Colorado’s Sons of Norway lodges combine to present “Fyremål: The Fiery Goal,” a multi-media presentation about A.O.Vinje, Edvard Grieg and the Norwegian language struggle, in a special program October 1, 2005, in Denver.
Considered one of Norway’s greatest lyric poets, Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870) was a farmer’s son from Telemark, one of the first to write in landsmål (Nynorsk) during the stormy years leading up to Norway’s independence. Moved by his haunting themes, Edvard Grieg wrote 12 solo songs to Vinje’s texts, which are considered among Grieg’s finest compositions.
Award-winning journalist and producer Judith Gabriel Vinje of Los Angeles, a distant relative of the famous Telemark writer, will narrate the program, with soprano Cara Clove singing several of the Grieg-Vinje settings. The duo has presented the multi-media tribute in several Southern California venues within the Scandinavian community.
The Denver program will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2400 South Colorado Blvd. It will be followed by a reception.
Sponsors include all Colorado’s Sons of Norway lodges – Fjelldalen, Fjellheim, Stein Fjell, Trollheim, Vesterheim and Vestafjell – the Sons of Norway Colorado Past Presidents' Club, along with a special grant from the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in San Francisco.
